What is this settlement about?
Costa v. Whirlpool Corp. (District of Delaware) alleges that certain side-by-side refrigerators made by Whirlpool between 2018 and 2021 contain a defective wire harness — the bundle of wires running through the freezer-door hinge that powers the in-door features. The suit claims repeated door opening/closing causes the wires to flex, fatigue, and break, so the ice maker stops making ice, the ice and water dispensers stop working, and the freezer-door control panel can go dark. The settlement covers four Whirlpool-owned brands — Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and JennAir. Whirlpool denies the wire harness is defective and denies wrongdoing; both sides settled to avoid further litigation.
Who's excluded: Top-freezer, bottom-freezer, and French-door models are NOT covered — only qualifying side-by-side models in the identified serial ranges. Personal-injury and other-property-damage claims (e.g. water damaging your floor) are NOT released and can be pursued separately.
