What is this settlement about?

Colgate-Palmolive and its Tom's of Maine subsidiary agreed to a $2.9 million settlement to resolve allegations of deceptive marketing of Tom's of Maine toothpaste made at its Sanford, Maine facility. The claims stem from a May 2024 FDA inspection that raised concerns about compliance with the FDA's Current Good Manufacturing Processes at the plant. After the inspection, Tom's reviewed pre-release testing data for about 4,900 finished toothpastes made over three years and reported that no batch showed a safety risk. Several class actions filed across the country were consolidated for settlement in the Eastern District of New York. Colgate-Palmolive and Tom's of Maine deny all wrongdoing and settled to avoid the cost and uncertainty of continued litigation.

Who's excluded: Products bought for resale or distribution are not covered — purchases must be for personal use.
