What is this settlement about?
European Wax Center agreed to a settlement (fund of up to $5 million) resolving claims that it shared visitors' information with third parties through website pixels, cookies, and analytics tools on waxcenter.com without consent. The lawsuit, Cumor, Dunn v. European Wax Center, frames this as digital wiretapping under the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the Florida Security of Communications Act, and the California Invasion of Privacy Act, plus common-law invasion of privacy. The complaint alleges third-party advertising and analytics scripts could capture information about a visitor's session as they browsed services, picked a studio, and booked a wax. European Wax Center denies any wrongdoing; the court has not decided the merits, and the company settled to avoid the cost and uncertainty of litigation.
Who's excluded: Excluded are the presiding judges and their families; European Wax Center and its affiliates, officers, directors, agents, attorneys, and employees; anyone who timely opts out; and their legal representatives, successors, and assigns.
