What is this settlement about?

Generac agreed to a $15 million settlement of In re: Generac Solar Power Systems MDL (Eastern District of Wisconsin). The lawsuit alleges that SnapRS devices — components of Generac PWRcell solar systems that provide code-required rapid-shutdown safety functionality — may overheat, melt, or fail, causing system shutdowns and reduced solar generation. Generac denies the devices are defective and denies wrongdoing. The settlement provides pro rata cash plus reimbursement for documented losses and lost energy generation, along with warranty changes for pre-May-2022 purchasers and educational materials for all class members.

Who's excluded: Excluded are Generac and its affiliates/officers/directors/employees, the judge and family, counsel, opt-outs, and systems provided through U.S. Department of Energy grants. Co-located owner/primary-user rule: if either opts out, BOTH are opted out — coordinate before opting out.

How much can you get?

  • Pro rata cash — minimal proof

All eligible class members who file get a pro rata share of the fund; you only need to establish Owner or Primary User status of an eligible PWRcell system (system details — no loss documentation).

  • Out-of-pocket loss reimbursement — evidence required

Reimbursement for documented money spent on a SnapRS-related problem (repair invoices, service receipts, parts costs).

  • Lost energy generation — evidence required

Additional compensation for documented lost solar generation in two or more months (system monitoring/production data and utility records).

  • Non-cash benefits

Warranty changes for systems purchased before May 2022, plus educational materials on SnapRS error codes for all class members (even those who file no claim).
