What is this settlement about?
Lemonade, Inc. and Lemonade Insurance Agency agreed to a $10.5 million settlement (In re Lemonade, Inc. Data Disclosure Litigation, S.D.N.Y.) over a data exposure on Lemonade's online insurance quote platform. Between April 2023 and September 18, 2024, cybercriminals allegedly entered information into the quote system and obtained personal data — including driver's license numbers — of roughly 190,000 people. The suit asserts negligence, violation of the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, and violation of New York General Business Law § 349. Lemonade denies wrongdoing but settled to avoid the costs and risks of trial. (This is separate from the earlier, closed Lemonade life-insurance privacy settlement.)
Who's excluded: Limited to living U.S. residents who were sent a breach notice. Self-prepared documents alone aren't sufficient proof for loss claims; expenses already reimbursed don't qualify.
How much can you get?
Pro rata cash — no receipts
A pro rata cash payment from what remains of the $10.5M fund after costs and approved loss claims. No receipts needed, though you generally need the Class Member ID from your postcard notice to file. Amount depends on how many claims are filed.
Documented losses — up to $10,000
Reimbursement of up to $10,000 for documented, unreimbursed losses incurred on/after April 1, 2023 that are more likely than not traceable to the exposure. Requires reasonable documentation; a rejected loss claim converts to the cash-fund payment.
3 years monitoring + $1M insurance — automatic
