What is this settlement about?
Fidelity (FMR LLC / Fidelity Brokerage Services) agreed to a $2.5 million settlement (In re: Fidelity Investments Data Breach Litigation, District of Massachusetts) over a breach in which, between August 17 and 19, 2024, an unauthorized third party accessed personal information on Fidelity's network. Exposed data may include names, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers and routing numbers, and driver's license information. Fidelity is settling without admitting wrongdoing. Note: this is Fidelity Investments (FMR LLC) — unrelated to Fidelity National Information Services (FIS).
Who's excluded: For joint accountholders sharing one compromised account/routing number, only one claim is permitted. Self-prepared notes alone aren't sufficient for documented losses; expenses already reimbursed don't qualify.
