What is this settlement about?

A $31.5 million settlement resolves Angus et al. v. Flagstar Bank, N.A. (Eastern District of Michigan) over two 2021 Flagstar data breaches: a January 2021 breach of the Accellion file-transfer platform (~1.47M people) and a December 2021 breach — about 2,187,170 affected individuals combined, including ~364,000 California residents. The suit alleges Flagstar failed to adequately protect customers' and employees' personal information and delayed notifying them. Flagstar denies the claims and settled without admitting liability.

Who's excluded: Covers only Flagstar Bank, N.A. customers/employees affected by the 2021 breaches — NOT former NYCB legacy or Signature Bank customers, and not people who became Flagstar customers only after 2021. Benefits may be reduced pro rata if approved claims exceed the $31.5M cap.
