What is this settlement about?
A proposed class action settlement has been reached in Kishore et al. v. Times Internet (UK) LTD. (d/b/a Willow TV), pending in the Northern District of California. The lawsuit alleges that Willow TV shared its subscribers' personally identifiable information — including the specific pre-recorded videos they watched — with third parties such as Meta (Facebook) without consent, in violation of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) and California law. Willow (Willow.tv) is a U.S.-based subscription streaming service devoted almost entirely to cricket, popular with the South Asian diaspora in North America. Court filings estimate the settlement class at roughly 75,830 subscribers who streamed on-demand content during the class window. Times Internet denies all wrongdoing and settled to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation.
Who's excluded: Class members who opt out by the deadline give up any payment. Anyone who did not subscribe to Willow TV or did not watch pre-recorded videos during the class period is not covered.
