Who qualifies?

There are two ways to qualify — and you can be in both. You qualify as a Purchaser Class member if you bought a Google-made device, and/or as a Privacy Class member if you used Google Assistant and were recorded by a 'False Accept.' The exact criteria for each are below; Privacy Class claims generally need no receipt.

  • Purchaser Class: bought a Google-made device (Pixel, Google Home/Mini/Max, Nest Hub/Max) in the U.S., May 18 2016 – Mar 19 2026
  • Privacy Class: used Google Assistant on any device (or were in a user's household) and were recorded by a False Accept
  • File with the Unique ID + PIN from your emailed notice, or use the 'no Unique ID' path tied to your Google-account email

What is this settlement about?

In re Google Assistant Privacy Litigation (Northern District of California) alleges that Google Assistant on Google-made and other enabled devices captured and transmitted audio to Google's servers because of 'False Accepts' — instances where the device wrongly thought it heard a hot word like 'Okay Google' even though no one said it — and that Google then used those recordings, including sharing them with third-party human-review vendors. The plaintiffs say this violated privacy rights, breached Google's own Privacy Policy, and was an unlawful business practice under California law. Google and Alphabet deny the allegations and settled without admitting fault. The $68 million fund is non-reversionary — unclaimed money goes to a court-approved nonprofit, not back to Google.

Who's excluded: Excluded are the judges/staff and their families; Google, Alphabet, and their subsidiaries, officers, directors, and employees; previously-released claimants; anyone who validly opts out; and anyone who files an individual arbitration demand and release. Note: people who opted out of the earlier 2024 Purchaser Class can rejoin simply by filing a claim.

How much can you get?

  • Purchaser Class — 4 points per device (max 3)

Bought a Google-made device (Pixel phone, Google Home/Mini/Max, Nest Hub/Max)? Earn 4 points per device, capped at 3 devices (12 points). The claim form may ask for the model, serial/IMEI, and proof of purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need proof for the Google Assistant settlement?+

It varies. Privacy Class claims generally need no receipt — you certify you qualify. Purchaser Class claims may ask for the device model, serial number or IMEI, and proof of purchase for each Google-made device (up to 3).

I used Google Assistant on a Samsung phone — do I qualify?+

Yes, through the Privacy Class. A Samsung (or other non-Google Android) isn't a Google-made device, so it doesn't count for the Purchaser Class, but a Google Assistant user can still claim the Privacy Class.

How is the money split?+

By a point system from the $68M non-reversionary fund: 4 points per Google-made device (max 3 devices) for the Purchaser Class, plus 1 point for the Privacy Class. You can claim both; the per-point value is set after the claim deadline.
