What is this settlement about?
Google agreed to pay $8.25 million to settle A.B. v. Google LLC, alleging it collected personal information from children under 13 without parental consent through Google Play apps and used it for behavioral advertising — in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and state privacy laws. The suit alleged that despite Google's 'Designed for Families' program, certain apps collected kids' device identifiers, IP addresses, and location data without verifiable parental consent. The court denied Google's motion to dismiss in 2024; the parties settled after mediation. Google denies all wrongdoing. The fund is non-reversionary — leftover money goes to the Center for Digital Democracy and Common Sense Media.
Who's excluded: Excluded are Google's and AdMob's officers and directors, the assigned judges and their families, settlement class counsel, and anyone who opts out.
How much can you get?
Pro rata cash — estimated $40–$200
The court estimates valid claimants will receive roughly $40–$200 (based on a 1–2% claims rate against an estimated 3.8M–10M class). The $8.25M fund, after fees, is split pro rata — fewer claims means larger checks. Paid by check or electronic payment. No proof required, just a sworn attestation.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need proof for the Google Play settlement?+
No. It's a no-proof settlement — no receipts, screenshots, or device records, and you don't need to remember specific apps. You attest under oath that you used Google Play apps while under 13 during the class period.
Can I claim if I'm an adult now?+
Yes — what matters is that you were under 13 when you used Google Play apps during the class period. If you're 18+ now you file your own claim; if you're still under 18, a parent or guardian files for you.
How much will I get?+
The court estimates roughly $40–$200 per valid claim, paid pro rata from the $8.25M fund. The exact amount depends on how many people file.
